The relationship between upper and lower limb performance in dual-task paradigm

Purpose

To determine how doing simple things with arms or legs is affected by doing at the same time something else, like spelling or math

Eligibility Criteria

  • Age 18 and older
  • Able to safely walk 25ft without stopping
  • No use of an assistive device while walking
  • No known balance, neurological, or other major health issues
  • Normal arm/hand and leg function
  • Normal or corrected vision
  • Able to do simple math and spelling

Procedure

  • A person will walk over a carpet at normal, slow, and fast speeds
  • Walking will be repeated while doing another task (math, spelling, etc)
  • A person will practice cycling on a stationary bike, tapping in rhythm, or building an assembly
  • These activities will be repeated while doing another task (math, spelling)

Compensation

$20 travel allowance, free parking, and a lunch ticket (if appropriate)
